Happy Valentine’s Day!

I hope you have a wonderful day with those that you love!

Here in Upstate, NY, we are supposed to get another 3ft of snow – on top of the 112+ inches that we’ve gotten over the last few days. So…my family & I will be spending some “quality” time together inside (except for the shoveling & snow blowing festival that will happen sometime today – so we can make our way out of the forest if we need to 🙂

I wanted to share some beautiful vintage Valentine greetings with you!

I just love vintage postcards! I think that the early greeting cards are some of the most beautiful cards ever printed! They are full of beautiful colors, intricate artwork, simple innocent verses, as well as the occasional feathers, ribbon, or glitter. They speak to your heart with the letters from loved ones written across the backs, and speak to your creative side with what I like to call – “eye candy for the soul!”

My grandfather Yates kept a collection of vintage postcards (which has now been passed down to my mother), and I have decided to take up the tradition to pass along to my children as well 🙂

I hope you enjoy these bits of art – Happy Valentine’s Day!

  2. I can see why you would want to continue the tradition, and also share the pictures with us! The vintage cards are so beautiful! What are the dates? Enjoy the beauty of the snow covered groung and trees, I think it is the most wonderful painting of winter.

  3. Heidi –

Alot of the cards are from the 1912 time period, 1 cent stamps, and little notes from family on the backs. Many of the cards that I have are on a cd – so I don’t have a huge collection of actual “paper” cards – that’s just now in the works 🙂

I have a certain style that I like (like the ones I posted), although you can find any style that you can imagine. You can find them at yard sales, flea markets, online, and all over ebay as well. The price can range from a few cents, to $50 or more. For these reasons, I think postcards are a great collectible for anyone!

  4. Your last entry was on the 14th. And you were expecting more snow.

And it’s now the 18th. I do hope you’ll make another entry soon.

    Meanwhile, stay warm and cozy…

  5. Yes – we did get lots more snow. BUT… today the sun is shining! And, even though it was below 0 this morning, the sun coming through the windows warms the heart more than anything!

  6. Oh, I don’t wish you anymore snow. We left upstate (eastern) NY 3 years ago and can you believe haven’t really seen snow since! We did bring our snowblower back south with us and I swear it is single handedly keeping the flakes at bay! LOL I really enjoyed my “visit” with your blog.

  7. I also love the old postcards…I have several of them here.

I have a large serving tray that is wood with a glass top. I slide postcards matching the holidays under the glass with the paper doilies.

I either sit in on the table or hang it on the wall.

I have cards for nearly every holiday.
